Snacking. We all do it, few do it well. If you work in an office, chances are by 3 PM the vending machine is wooing you harder than that creep you met last night on Tinder. Here are some tips and tricks for better snacking:
1. Avoid the vending machine at all costs. Most (if not all) of the snacks are empty calories of nutrition-less processed chemicals that will bloat you and make you crave more food, not satiate your hunger. Instead, make a trip to the deli across the street for some nuts. Nuts are a great source of protein, help lower cholesterol, and keep you fuller for longer.
2. BYOS (Bring Your Own Snacks)! If you know you have a long day ahead of running errands or working, followed by a date or happy hour (or both), bring snacks to prevent you from making poor food choices out of desperation. A few good portable options include baby carrots, apples, brown rice and seed crackers, and these cute snack size almond butter packets.
3. Alternative bar snacks. This one is the hardest to do but will definitely have the biggest impact on your waistline. When your peeps order buffalo wings, nachos, and chicken fingers to munch on, ask the waitress if she can bring some carrots and celery (bars usually have this to accompany their wings) that you can dip into the salsa and dressings instead. The crunch from the vegetables is more satisfying than you think, and will help hold you over until dinner.
